Sample Works Cited Page

The page below is a sample to show you how to cite items from America Now. Please note several things:

(1) The "Works Cited" page only includes items you actually referred to in the paper. I have included everything here, but if you do not refer to a piece, do not throw in the citation just because I gave you a sample.

(2) Your Works Cited page, like this one, will be alphabetized by the first thing in the entry. The order of items is not random, nor is it in the order you used the items.

(3) If you used something from a source outside our textbook, use a resource such as Noodletools to generate a Works Cited page entry.

(4) The in-text citation normally refers to the author's last name, not the publisher, editor, etc. In any case, whatever comes first in a good MLA Works Cited page entry is the item you use for the in-text citation.

These items are ALL in a book edited by Robert Atwan and published by Bedford/St. Martin's, but when you cite them in the paper, NONE of them would have either Atwan or Bedford listed as the author!

If you choose to quote from one of the chapter introductions, the Works Cited entry would look like this because Atwan did write the chapter introductions. In the text, of course, you would also include the page number(s).
